When life gives you lemons...NOT CROSS-STICH RELATED!

Warning: this is NOT about cross-stitching. This is an emotional rant/cathartic release. If you don't want to read it - I suggest you skip this post and wait till I decide to post something crafty. Which may/may not be anytime soon since I haven't posted anything in months!

This year has been....well a roller-coaster of a year. Not including all the celebrity deaths that have been blows to us all this year, I have lost my own maternal grandfather, a man I loved and have missed greatly since his passing.

On top of this, my husband and I have been struggling with our own roller-coaster ride - that of dealing with trying to expand our family and have a baby but because of reasons - have had to pursue In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).  If you do not know what this is - there are lots of sites that will tell you but as my siblings and I used to call ourselves "test-tube babies" or to be more accurate - petri dish babies ;) Yes, my Mom went through IVF and ended up with triplets - 3 years later she had my brother the more "normal" route - unexpectedly mind you. But I am living proof that it does work. Sometimes.

For anyone that has gone through this, I'm sure you know the feelings well - for those who haven't it's a constant cycle of a slow climb up (the hope that "yes this will work") when you see positive results & ultrasounds, followed by the swift plummet downward when it doesn't (for whatever reason) and an even longer climb back up when you try another cycle. Each climb back up seems harder and longer and each downward plunge is faster and deeper - emotionally worse and worse. We went through 3 cycles of this emotional ride. 4 if you want to count the first attempt since I wasn't responding to the stimulation medications and my cycle was stopped shortly after we started.

This last one was our best results as far as stimulation and the amount of mature eggs we received. It was also the most crushing when we got our results of 0 out of 6 embryos continuing to grow to day 5.  The first two times I managed to stay at work and push through it. I even continued to finish work when I got the call at lunch from my Mom that my grandfather had passed unexpectedly. This time I couldn't. I couldn't be around anyone right then. I needed to get out. I was feeling sick, I was emotionally destroyed and I needed to just go home. This was our last shot at IVF and it had failed. I was done with everything that day. Thankfully, my boss understood and didn't even care that I forgot to clock out. He signed my card and sent me home.

So - what's our next step? Everyone asks me that - along with offering their own two cents in what we "should" have done/not done. And you know what? Fuck them! They aren't the ones going through it - they don't have to deal with the emotional blows and what-ifs so they can easily sit back and say "well if *I* were  you...." when they don't have to deal with it. It's always easier to sit back and tell someone what they should be doing when you aren't the one going through it. And frankly, unless you have been where I am - you don't know what it's like. Nor will you ever. I'm not saying I wish this on anyone - cause I don't! Not even on my worst enemy!! But many of the people who offer their opinions have kids, didn't have issues having their kids or haven't even tried to HAVE kids.

It's even harder when all my friends/family have or are having kid(s) and I'm stuck having one failed attempt after another. It's *still* hard to deal with and it's been a few days since I got the news. Each day is better than the one before it but it's still hard. And I think it will always be hard to deal with in some way.

Yes, there are other options out there. Some my husband and I are considering - while others we *might* look at in the future. Right now, we are going to be taking a break from all this. We, myself especially, need to regroup.

So, now you know why I haven't been posting much when it comes to my stitching. It's been hard to concentrate on stitching anything - let alone any of the countless WIP's I have sitting around my home. I hope that this next year brings more ups than downs as this year has just been one downward spiral after another. But, we shall see.

Also, I know this is an older post but these tips are helpful so please, give it a read if you feel like it and keep them in mind whenever you find out someone is going through this.

SFS - Oct '15

Budget: $41.09
Spent: $0
Earned: $0
Carry Over: $66.09

Not much to report this month. I honestly didn't do much stitching. Which is bad since I have projects that need to be finished and soon, but I lost my stitching bug. So if anyone finds it, her name is Stitchy, please send it back to me. I need her.

So what have I been doing? Well, outside of work, I've been playing video games. Mostly Diablo III but recently StarWars The Old Republic (SWTOR) again.

Here's hoping Stitchy comes home soon and I can buckle down and knock out at least Mom's gift. I already figure I won't get Emily's stocking done before Christmas at this rate. *sigh* Oh well...I doubt she's going to care.

Here's hoping everyone else had a wonderful stitch filled month. :)

SFS - Sept '15

Budget: $28.62
Spent: $12.53
Earned: $0
Carry Over: $16.09

So, I got another stocking for my newest niece.  Dimensions Cross Stitch: Stack of Critters

Dimensions Needlecrafts Counted Cross Stitch, Stack Of Critters
Pretty cute huh? ^_^ Goal is to have this done by Thanksgiving so I can give it to Nicki and James for baby Emily who was born on the 16th.  That's supposed to get in sometime this week (I think Tuesday) so I'll start that as soon as it gets in.

So, what did I work on?

Finished the weather tags for calendar and started on the part on the fabric.

I also got a wonderful gift from Leonore - TW fruit bell pull kit. ^_^ This will go in my 'To Do' pile and whenever I finish it I'll find a nice place for it.....somewhere.

I can't wait to finish stitching up 'calendar' so I can get it all put together. It's stitching up pretty quickly so after I do all the letters, all I'll have to do is go back and backstitch them. I was going to backstitch as I went but I wanted to see how it looked first in case I need to move things over.

Until next time everyone,

Happy stitching! ^_^

Book Review

First off let me start out by warning anyone reading this - as the title suggests this is NOT a crafting post. If you only want to ready about my stitching then skip this one and wait for the next post, if you don't care and want to read whatever, then cool beans.

Second off - this will NOT be a nice review! You have been warned.

Okay, as some of you may know I am an avid reader - and by avid I mean I would go to the library during the summer, check out 6 to 7 books (some times 10) and have them all done by the end of the week and going back to get more. I can read 1 - 2 a day if I'm not interrupted. More if they aren't long or I've read them 50 million times before. ;) And no matter what I might think of a book I always finish it. There have been 3 exceptions to this unofficial rule of mine, because I hold out hope that the book will get better if I just blow through it.  It doesn't always work.

The first: a book I don't even remember the name or author of that my Mom checked out for me in maybe 8/9 grade an effort to get me out of my 'reading hole' - that being scifi/fantasy/YA since I was always checking out the same books and refused to try any other genre. She actually checked out 2 books, one I liked the other I got halfway though and couldn't stand. She never picked out another book for me and I eventually (on my OWN!) branched out into other genres but not until college.

The second: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. I LOVE the musical. Honestly, I've seen if multiple times and I love it; the music, the costumes, the story, everything! The book......not so much. I tried. Really I did. But I couldn't get past....maybe chapter 3 or 4. It didn't hook me and I just couldn't force myself to read any more of it. My Mom did better - she got halfway before she stopped. My sister owns all of the books in the series and loved them. I *might* give it another shot sometime....but I doubt it.

The following is a review on the third book that I couldn't finish that I got off of a book blog recommendation list.

I am very glad I only checked this book out of my local library and didn't buy it. Honestly, unless a book is by an author that I already know & love (ie: Tamora Pierce, Mercedes Lackey, David Eddings, Pierce Anthony, or pretty much any StarWars book) I will check it out or borrow it from a friend first before I spend $$ on it. Which drives my Mom crazy, in her mind why spend money on a book you already read? My answer: because I want to reread it at some point. I know.....strange concept.

Now, I like a good romance novel as much as the next gal. I honestly didn't until I started reading paranormal ones and have since given the genre more range.

I read 50 Shades of Grey because I wanted to see what the whole controversy was about - it was badly written and since I KNEW it was originally a Twilight fanfic that made sense, but this review isn't about it and there are enough out there that you don't need to read one more.

THIS book claims to be for fans of 50 Shades and others of that ilk with the whole rich man/billionaire/guy with issues/control/dominate meets girl and insta love happens with lots of sexy fun times.

So you might be asking yourself, Krystal - what is this book and just get to the review already? Well fine - here is my review and I warn you - there ARE spoiliers and I will not spare the language or descriptions so if anything about sex or cursing offends you, leave.

The culprit: This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas
The crime: being a waste of time and a God awful book!

Lets meet the characters:

"Hero": Jesse Ward - a "devastatingly handsome, utterly confident, pleasure-seeking playboy who knows no boundaries" That's right off the back of the book btw. He runs "The Manor", is of an undisclosed age, is rich beyond belief and hired Ava to design some bedrooms for him after seeing her work at another location.

"Heroine": Ava O' Shae - a young interior designer who's been pretty successful and works at a well known and prominent design firm. I don't remember her age....I think it's late 20s.

Secondary Characters:

Kate: Ava's roommate and BFF. Owns a cake decorating business and apparently used to date Ava's brother.

Sam: one of Jesse's friends. We first meet him at "The Manor" when Jesse shows Ava around, and he and Kate hook up after meeting at a later date.

We find out at the end of the book that "The Manor" is a sex club - surprise! Not

On to the book content

Offensive item right off the bat: when Ava first gets out of her car, she's greeted, at the door by "[...]the biggest man I've ever seen [...] He has on a black suit - specifically made for sure because that's no regular size - a black shirt and a black tie. His skin is the color of rich ebony, his shaved head looks like it's been buffed to a shine, and wraparound sunglasses conceal his eyes. [...] This man is a mountain and everything about him screams bodyguard."

So, basically she's greeted by a giant, bald, black guy. And what is her reaction to this? "I'm suddenly slightly concerned that I've turned up at some Mafia control center, and I search my brain trying to remember if I transferred my panic alarm to my new handbag" - ie: her 'rape whistle'

Really? A person you think is a body guard - at a VERY WEALTHY person's house greets you and you think you've suddenly gotten involved with the Mafia or that the guy is going to rape you or something? WTF Jodi - seriously? Because he's black??

The guy's name turns out to be John or something. Idk - not important.

So the whole billionaire/dom/insta-love thing really doesn't bug me. If done right, it works and I enjoy the book. This, obviously, isn't one of those.

The 'insta-lust/love' thing is there for sure. But controlling/dom thing from Jesse is abusive - NOT sweet.

1) When Ava leaves to use the restroom, to talk herself down from the insta-lust/attraction she has when meeting Jesse, he digs through her purse and programs his number and a custom ringtone into her phone without her knowledge or permission. You don't find out about this till later when he calls her. He changes her ringtone on several more occasions - again without permission. And Ava says/does nothing - just accepts hit.

2) Jesse will call multiple times a day and get pissed when Ava doesn't answer. Ie: She's in the shower and misses 8 calls, with him OUTSIDE HER HOME, and he's pissed because she didn't take her cell phone with her. + water =/= mix. And that's just one example. But all is forgiven with "reminder sex" because she needs to remember how utterly amazing Jesse is in the sex department and how amazing and earth shattering the orgasms are when they have sex.

When she doesn't pick up at work (after 8+ calls) because she's avoiding him or working, he calls her work and berates the secretary/receptionist.But don't worry - he makes it up by sending both Sally (the receptionist) and Ava giant bouquets of flowers.
3) Her birth control pills go missing on several occasions - two that I read of, apparently it's a total of three times, after she spends the night with him. Conclusion 1- he's getting rid of them because NO girl is THAT clueless/forgetful when it comes to her birth control and she's sleeping with a guy without condoms - hell, even WITH condoms. NO ONE! Conclusion 2 - he wants to get her pregnant because it's one more way to bind her to him and control her.

4)  Double standards: he has no problem cussing but anytime Ava says "fucking" or "shit" or anything he will tell her (more like yell at her) to "watch your fucking mouth!" Direct quote from the book btw. Every time! Anytime Jesse get's pissed off or upset about something - it's Ava's fault. He can't help it he's just soooooo crazy about her he can't control himself and it's HER fault.

Bitch please! Last time I check anyone over the age of like....5 are held responsible for their own actions. Actually I take that back, kids younger are probably held responsible for their own actions to a point as well.

He also counts down from 3 to 0 to goad her into doing something he wants but that she doesn't want to do - ie: get on his motorcycle when she's already expressed concern about it and said no when it's in front of her job and she can get in trouble for being seen with him. News flash: she's an adult, not a child (although honestly I can't tell with the way she acts at times).  If she doesn't comply by the time he reaches 0, he picks her up and throws her over his shoulder or does something else equally embarrassing.

Spoiler: we find out at the end (cause I skipped to read the last few pages just for this review) that Jesse is/was? an alcoholic. When Ava gets upset for him not telling her anything about "The Manor" - a sex club for BDSM or whatnot - he gets drunk - like shitfaced drunk. Ava gets upset when she finds this out because he never told her (anything really)  that he was an alcoholic and confronts him about it. By this point she apparently has already left him and is just back there to pack up some of her stuff. He blames her for his drunkenness, claiming that she "'...turned [his] life upside down, caused all this damage, and now you're leaving without fixing it?'" and that with her he didn't need the alcohol because all he could think about was fucking her. He said that he wanted to talk to her about everything (I never once saw that) but that she was difficult - so once again it's her fault. Everything is Ava's fault. Again, what are we 6?

5) He ignores her when she says "no" during sex - or even before sex. Basically he doesn't lay off the touching or anything until she caves and has sex with him. Um....NO means NO! Unless this is a BDSM book and they have safe-words established - it's not and they don't.  I don't care that she's 'conflicted internally' which is why she caves- she said no at the start, end of discussion. Do not pass Go, do not collect $100. Or in this case - continue to pressure her into having sex with you. THAT'S RAPE!

6) He gets super insane jealous whenever she's talking to another guy - her ex or her GAY coworker - it doesn't matter - he doesn't like it and basically tells her she can't talk to them. He doesn't like the very expensive dress she bought because it's "too short" and she's "for his eyes only" - so he cuts it up (apparently I didn't get that far because I stopped reading before he did it). But that's okay everyone cause apparently he buys her another dress that HE picked out and that HE likes and that makes it okay, all is forgiven and we can go on to have MORE SEX! He's rich, well endowed, and good in bed so all his actions are forgiven and not at all illegal/questionable. *eye roll*

Ava goes with Kate to deliver a giant cake and while Kate is inside talking to the customer/getting payment/whatever - an old fat guy in some sports car gets pissed because Kate's old broken-ass van is double parked or something so he starts going after Ava to "move the fucking van" and when she panics, and looks for the keys - to no avail, he moves in and physically assaults her. But don't worry loyal readers - Jesse shows up OUT OF NO WHERE and saves her! How the hell did he even know where she was? Apparently he had people following her - or he was, it's unclear from later reviews. But don't worry all, he gets so upset that Ava a bruised ass from riding in the back of the van (without a seat-belt on) to prevent the cake from being destroyed as they go up a hill with speed bumps - he buys Kate a new van. Which means he's a keeper and Ava should stay with him no matter what!

Now this bugs me - first off there's no reason for the old bald fat guy to get as pissed off at Kate/Ava's parking as he did because he SAW them pull a giant ass cake out of the van and bring it inside. So he knows what's going on.  I pretty much served no other purpose than to serve as a plot point for the "hero" to come in and rescue the "heroine" from danger. Proving how much he loves her or some shit.

And it's not just of men - at one point, he puts her clothes IN THE FRIDGE and won't tell her where they are because he doesn't want her to go to work, for which she's already late for because OMG THE SEX from the night before was just soooooooo amazing, until she agrees that she won't drink anything when she goes out on Friday with Kate - to a BAR. Oh yeah, that's another thing - he gets upset because she says she has plans to hang out with her friends and can't stay the night with him. Um....excuse me? No. Just no.

7) He shows up at her work to pay a late invoice, because she got lectured by her boss for him not having paid it and so she lets him know, and he proceeds to take her work diary, that has all her appointments with her other clients in it, erases them because they are in pencil, and then takes a black marker and draws a line through the days before writing his name. Claiming that she's his and he only wants her to spend time with him. AND SHE FUCKING LETS HIM DO IT!!!

This right here is where I said 'forget it!' I'm done!

Apparently he goes on to move her into his house with out asking or even talking to Ava about it, even going so far as to enlist Kate and Sam's help to pack up stuff for her and does some other stuff.

And we never do find out how old Jesse is. He starts off by saying "21" when asked how old he was when he got "The Manor" or something and just adds one more year to the answer anytime she asks him how old he is. Annoying to say the least - and really? WTF cares? Why not just tell her your age? He's already sleeping with her! This is NOT need to be a big mystery. The random ass scar he has? Sure. His issue with drinking? Okay. But he age? No.

Now Ava isn't much better - she starts off strong what with her career and all but she caves soooooo easily when Jesse does something she doesn't like. She'll leave him - or fight back - but she just can't stay mad at him because he's just so damn sexy and OMG is he amazing in bed!

They never actually TALK about anything - Ava ignores Jesse, puts her hands over her ears and hums so she can't hear him talking (what is she 6?!), while Jesse just shuts down completely, uses sex to distract her from the question/problem, or just refuses to answer.

The Sex:

This book is 470 pages with 33 chapters and a bonus chapter at the end (making it 34) that's from Jesse's POV about the night Ava and Jesse first have sex at an open house party showing off the fancy house Ava helped decorate. That's pretty long for a book of this type. There is a LOT of sex in here. It's repetitive and not well written.

One of the first times Ava/Jesse have sex they have anal sex, excluding the aforementioned party. Not an uncommon type of sex in these books, but not normally one of the first things that occurs. There is NO prep, no lube used (because she's just so wet he doesn't need to use it) and it's just amazing! Best orgasm ever, OMG! But they don't talk about it after or really any other time and it never occurs again. At least not in this book. I don't know about in the other 2, and have NO desire to find out.

Now, either Jodi has never actually HAD anal sex - or she's a complete moron. Or both.....but I'm going with moron. That is NOT something you jump into! And in any other book I've read that has that type of sex involved - there is ALWAYS prep of some sort and some sort of lube used. Always!!

The simultaneous orgasms  - look, I'm sorry but it's NOT going to happen every fucking time! Nor is it THAT big of a deal if it doesn't, as long as the guy doesn't just get off and leave the girl hanging - that's just plain mean. And I get that that's a thing with the genre but it's never annoyed me as much as it had in this book.  It just really really bugged me. Probably because I already disliked the characters and everything just annoyed me more and more as I kept reading.

Jesse uses sex to get what he wants - control over Ava. He's constantly asking her "who has the power"/"who's in control" and the answer he wants is him. The one time she said that he didn't have control over her, he got pissed and yelled at her. RED FLAG!!! Dom/Sub relationships, at least the ones in GOOD books, aren't like that! But oh no, Jesse isn't a Dom....he just likes to have control - totally a separate thing guys I swear! Jodi's line of thinking I'm sure. Actually when Ava does ask Jess if he's a dominate, he gets upset with her for even asking such a question and says no he just likes control over her and has never been like that in any other relationship before. *eye roll*

Seriously though people - this book is just one big red flag of domestic abuse after another.

The sad thing? The amount of 5 star reviews online. Many of them were along the lines of "I don't know what all those people are talking about. There's NO WAY this is anything like abuse. It's amazing!" "Jesse Ward is amazing! I luv him." "I want a Jesse Ward of my own." "OMG THE SEX IS SO AMAZING IN THIS BOOK" "It's like 50 Shades but better! Can't wait to read the next 2" etc etc etc. I think those people just like all the sex scenes and don't actually pay attention, or think, about what they are reading.

There are 2 more books in this series - I will NOT be reading them. I  won't even waste my time reading reviews of them. I just don't care. I also won't touch anything by this author ever again. She's on my shit list.

PLEASE for the love of God, don't waste your time on this book. I skimmed chapters and still couldn't finish it. It's not worth the time you would loose or the utter aggravation you will develop for the characters and author.

Okay, end of rant/vent/review. I'm off to bed. Here's hoping the next book I have waiting for me at the library isn't as disappointing.

Don't worry, we'll be back to your regularly scheduled cross-stitching post next time. Till then,

here's hoping you have some good books to read! ^_^

SFS - Aug 2015

Budget: $25.00
Spent: $21.38
Earned: $0
Carry Over: $3.62

So......I managed to stick to my budget this month. JoAnn's had a 3 for $.99 sale on DMC floss a few weeks ago, and I needed to pick up some colors for one of my next projects so I took advantage of the sale. I also picked up a magazine and I had a 20% off coupon as well.

$9.24 for 28 skeins
$14.00 for the magazine

Floss on the left is what I bought. Right pile is what I already had in my stash. Still need to bobinate them which is why there is a pack of plastic bobbins. So I now have all the floss colors I need for "Project Princess" and I just need to get the beads. Those will probably be purchased next month though.

There are a several  Joan Elliot designs in this and I LOVE JE! There are a lot of other cute designs too so I just had to pick this one up.

Already have a few plans for some of these, I just have to make room in my project list for them.

So....what did I work on? Well I worked on some of the weather tags for the calendar I'm making for Mom.  I also got my Mom's sewing machine last time I was home along with some cross-stitching supplies she came across from when she cross-stitched, when she was cleaning out the garage. I'll take and post pictures later next week.

Got good news at work. Friday was my last day as a temp. Starting Monday, I'm a full time employee who is now eligible to earn vacation time, sick days, holiday pay, and other benefits.  Also got a bit of a pay raise. :)

Well, it's a short post this time but there wasn't a lot going on this month.

Happy stitching everyone!

July '15 SFS-B

 Month: July 2015
Spent: $51.80
Earned: $0

Yes, I know I totally blew my budget out of the water this month (by about $27) but I'm not really sorry.

I got a lot of stuff I needed for my next 2 projects, one of which I'm working on now, and since 1 of the items I needed was 50% off at Hobby Lobby the weekend I went, I decided I might as well go for it.

So what did I get?

 - Fabric from my LNS that is fit for a princess, I'm just not telling you which one yet ;)
 - Thread colors that I was missing for 'Grandma's Project' (GP)
 - Fabric for GP
 - Double pack of 14 ct plastic canvas for GP
 - Magnets (2 kinds - strips with adhesive backing and solid round ones) for GP
 - Plastic bobbins since I needed more
 - 2 small plastic containers for bobbinated floss for small projects
Aren't they cute?
 - Artist canvas for GP (which was 50% off so it only cost me like $5 instead of $10)

So....did I work on anything?

Actually, yes. I started my MH ornament, but I haven't finished it yet, still have the light blue beads and charm to put on before it's done.
July 14 progress shot

I started taking GP to work instead. I finished part 1.5 of GP but since it's all back-stitching I'm not counting it as a finish for this month.

So, what is the GP I keep talking about? Well, as some of you might already know, my brother had a niece - Emma - who is now 13 months old. My Mom and I were flipping through one of my XS magazines and we found a cute pattern that Mom requested I do for her, with some changes. It's a calendar and while part of it is stitched on fabric, which is then stretched over an artist canvas to give it some strength, the days of the week, months, numbers, and weather, are stitched on plastic canvas which is cut out and a magnet is attached to the back. The other magnets aren't stuck on anything so they can be removed as needed.

The original pattern had the child's name on it, but since Mom wants to use it for ALL her grandchildren, we decided to leave that part out.

Pre cut-out finish

Start of weather! ^_^

There were supposed to be random light purple full Xs under and around the snowflake - but since 1) I forgot about them till I was almost done and 2) because I CAN! I'm going to add light purple beads instead. And besides, it needs a little sparkle. ;)

Okay, well that's all for the progress shots, now onto the rest of the photos!

So Thomas, Roxy, Jewel and I went home for a week to visit family and because he had vacation time to take. Which was fun. The 16hr drive.....not so much, don't worry we did it in 2 days and didn't kill ourselves doing it in 1.

Since our b-day is Aug 5th, and I'm not going to be home to celebrate it with the rest of the family, we had a mini b-day celebration on the Monday we were there and I gave out my gifts to my sister & brother but they had to wait for the rest of their gifts from the family while I got all of mine. Mwahahah! In case you don't already know, I'm a triplet, hence the joint birthday talk.

I got the last season of True Blood *tear* from Joe & Linds, the 50th anniversary of Sound of Music from Mom/Dad, a beautiful Winne the Pooh teapot from Jason/Sarah, and a Disney cross-stitching kit from Reema (family friend who had been staying with Jason/Sarah for a few days).

The teapot is going up on my shelf with my 2 other pretty teapots. The kit has aida, floss, and a pattern book. There are a few I will probably end up doing at some point.

Joe also brought his cat, Star, so it was a full house between the 3 dogs and the cat. Joe, Mom and I also ended up having to give Star a bath because she stunk. can guess how well that went.

Star - Halp me!
The 3 dogs did their normal rodeo but eventually all calmed down.

As you can see, they all passed out in 'their' spots - Kirby in 'his'/Mom's chair, Lilly in-between Mom & Dad's chair, and Roxy next to the couch where I was sitting. And yes, Kirby sleeps on his back like that all the time in that chair....and sometimes when he's not. He's weird like that.

We also got to meet up with Joe (Thomas's cousin, not my little bro) his wife Whitney, and their new baby girl, Harper - who I think is like 10 months old or so.
Adorable isn't she?
Roxy wasn't to sure of here in her walker/spaceship thing she's got there so she stayed out of the way, or tried to. Harper thought it was fun chasing her though, poor puppy couldn't catch a break with the little ones.

Thomas and I got to see Ankit, a friend, race his mini car (I'm not sure what it's called) Sat night that we got in. It was a blast. We got pit passes so we could go back to his trailer and hang with him in-between races. Thomas helped him as his unofficial pit crew member, since normally it's just him doing all the work.

Ankit & car

Thomas, Ankit & car

Really, lots of fun watching all the different races and even though Ankit didn't win we still enjoyed ourselves.

One of the things I like to do when I'm home is play Pokeno, think Bingo but with playing cards, with the ladies on our street. It's a thing we try to do once a month and I asked Mom to host it this month while I was home so I could play.

We play for pennies, I know...big spenders ;) with everyone throwing in $.03/bowl for each round with each round being called by the person to the left of the previous caller so everyone has a turn. There are 5 bowls in our game - Pokeno, Black Out, Middle, 4 of a kind, and 4 corners. Black Out is always the last round of the night which is done whenever it gets back the original caller who started the game. Pokeno winner ends each of the other rounds.

At the end of the game I had won a whole $1.40, which I then gave back to my Mom since I had forgotten my bag at home in CO and was using her money to play.

Emma wanted to help her Grandma play so while Mom was holding her (and Emma was eating a tortilla chip) she kept putting her tortilla chip down on Mom's card and then would try to pick up the red bingo chips that the game comes with and try to eat was a good thing I was sitting next to her and could help Mom keep an eye on her.

I had also gotten my hair done before we left - cut & highlighted. Got a good 3-4 inches cut off and some nice caramel highlights put in.  And were I work, we have a lot of deer that come by and lay along the building where it's shaded - hence the random picture of the doe below.

The above picture of Roxy was taken in the hotel room we stayed at on the way back to CO. She's laying her head on Mr. Cuddles, my golden retriever stuffed animal I got in HS (my Mom named him for me ^_^) who I brought back with me for when Thomas is gone, or when I'm not feeling good. :( Mr. Cuddles went to college with me and has been a good companion when I've been sick in the past.

For the most part through Roxy avoids Mr. Cuddles or just really isn't interested in him I guess. But that was just too cute to not take a picture of.

Okay, so that's all for the massive picture fest. Till next time

Happy stitching everyone!

SFS - June '15

So.....I know I am WAY late reporting this, and so it won't qualify for the SFS report but I figured I'd would post it anyway.

Budget: $85.10

Earned: $0
Spent: - $20.20
Remaining: $64.90

Now since this doesn't carry over to the next SFS it doesn't really matter much.

So $7 of that went towards a Mill Hill bead ornament kit that I found at my new LNS :)

So, what did I buy for $13.20? Well there was a garage sale going on locally because of a liquidation sale of an old quilting store. Sadly the owner had passed and the family was getting rid of her store stash. They had floss, aida, fabric, kits, completed quilts and half completed quilts that had been used to display patterns.

They had floss in bags (25 skeins for $1) or individual floss in a bin that you dug through. Thomas and I started digging through the bin to find colors that I needed but after having little success at that, I decided to just take my chance with the bags and ended up buying 8 bags (about 200 skeins of floss)

I also got a project carry case that came with a small pair of scissors and a metallic board to hold patterns with magnetic project cards & magnifying readers for the pattern.

And I got 2 things of ribbed cross-stitching border that I'll use for bookmarks eventually.

As for what I finished, I finished stitching up Glaceon except for the small parts I still need to fix.
I also finished day 3 - French Hens
And day 4 - Calling Birds

Still behind but having finished 2 days in 1 month, I think I'll be able to catch up soon. :)

Thomas and I also went to the local Renaissance Fair and met up with some of my friends from HS. It was a lot of fun and I'm glad we went.

It was a lot of fun and they had a Cat Show that was really fun to see. The white tiger shown above is still young, I think he said she was about a year old. Almost seemed like she was posing for pictures there. :) My friend Tassi took the picture of the tiger and we had a gate employee take the group picture.

Until next time, happy stitching everyone! ^_^
